Christmas Memory Verse:
Thou, Bethlehem Ephrathah

Christmas memory verse, indeed!  When the magi appeared in Jerusalem, inquiring, "Where is he that is born King of the Jews?" King Herod the tyrant was troubled.

Christmas memory verse song

Having some knowledge of the Hebrew scriptures, he gathered the chief priests and scribes together and demanded to know where the Christ should be born.

They knew very well, for the Messiah's birthplace had been prophesied over 400 years before, by the prophet Micah.

The priests and scribes answered King Herod,

"In Bethlehem of Judea: for so it is written by the prophet:

"And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means the least among the princes of Judah: for from you shall come a ruler, who will shepherd my people Israel."

A lead sheet version of the memory verse song Micah 5:2,

One of the phrases in this verse gives me the chills - it is where Micah says,

"...whose goings forth have been from old, from everlasting."

This is saying what John says of Jesus in John chapter 1,

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

And it is what Jesus says about himself in John chapter 8:

Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
