The Beatitudes Song

The Beatitudes Song has a lovely melody that matches each word of all the Beatitudes, Matthew 5:3-12.   Have you ever wished you could memorize them?  This is a good approach to learning Jesus's comforting words!

The Beatitudes song for piano

The first few measures of the piano recording are just an intro, and then the F chord goes on for a long time, at the start...

Though there are many patterns which repeat in this melody, it is not entirely predictable like a hymn.  That's because the metrics of the "lyrics" - the Bible Beatitudes verses  - are not metrical like a poem!  That makes it pretty tricky to accommodate the words with a melody.

The musical form

This may be one of those songs that you need to hear or play numerous times before it gets "predictable" for you and your congregation, yet it does have a somewhat regular, and satisfying form:

A     B     A1     B1     A2     C

In the Beatitudes, persecution is mentioned 3 times

"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake..."

"Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you... for my sake."

"...for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."

If these are the End Times (as I and many others believe), then persecution is coming, for all who believe in Jesus's name, and not just those in faraway countries.  We in the Western world need to prepare our souls, and the hearts and minds of our children.

Is our suffering because of God's wrath?

Scripture does make a distinction between the hatred and persecution of the world directed at the children of God, and the wrath of God poured out on the world during the Great Tribulation.

His wrath is not directed at us - and that is one of the reasons I believe He will remove His children prior to that time of unparalleled horror and suffering.

Encouragement and promises

John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ...

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Are there any prophetic signs or events still needing to occur before the Church is "caught up... to meet the Lord in the air"?

I can't think of any.  Can you?

The Beatitudes

Matthew 5:3-12, King James Version

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek! Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled, they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
