Good works cannot save
This is what makes the true followers of Jesus different from adherents to all other religions... while knowing that God loves us, we realize it is in spite of ourselves.
God places great value upon us... yet that inherent value will not save us! Nor will "being good."
There is nothing we can do for God that will give us entrance into heaven, and no deeds nor way of life we can follow to prevent going to hell.
It is a gift
Only by accepting the gift that God offers - Jesus Christ's sacrifice of death in our place - will we be granted forgiveness from sins past, present, and future. This gift cannot be earned, only accepted.
Say, "Yes, Lord, I believe... give me that gift!"
