Zechariah's message is a difficult one... God is promising that great suffering is ahead for the Jews.
Yet, the Old Testament of the Bible is full of prognostications of woe and warnings for the Jews; what is different about this statement?
On this page, you will find:
There are general trials and tribulations, which are an expected part of all believers' lives... and then there is The Great Tribulation. They are not the same!
Jeremiah 30:7 says,
“Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it” (KJV).
And Daniel 12:1:
"At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book."
These prophecies are reiterated by Jesus in Matthew 24:21 when He says,
"For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be."
Anyone who has an interest in prophecy (eschatology) and needs encouragement that God has not forgotten about them! But Jewish people in particular, for these prophecies were spoken to THEM.

Zechariah 13:8!, where these frightening and ominous words are spoken by the prophet:
"And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein."
Recently (Spring 2026) Tucker Carlson had a Catholic woman, Carrie Prejean, on his show who derided anyone crazy enough to believe in the notion that 2/3 of the nation of Israel would die, and only 1/3 would remain. She assumed that was an anti-Semitic belief!
God is not anti-Semitic.
We are talking about a special time; as Jesus said in Matthew 24: 22,
"And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened."

Because of current talk about "Disclosure" and heightened interest in "aliens" - friendly or not-friendly - I want to share some thoughts about the much-maligned doctrine of the Pre-Tribulation Rapture.
The man speaking above is Lee Brainard, quoting Irenaeus and other early Church fathers who did teach the pre-Tribulation "catching up" - "harpazo" or "Rapture" - of Church Age believers. This doctrine was taught from the 1st century through the 4th century Church fathers, up until the time of Augustine, when the allegorical method became the fashion for Bible interpretation.
Interpreting prophetic passages as ALLEGORY led to Replacement Theology (called "Fulfillment Theology" by some), where God's promises to Abraham, Israel, and David were applied to Church Age believers.
This notion that Jesus fulfilled EVERYTHING on the Cross and transferred God's promises to the Church, wiping out all the land and kingdom promises to Israel, denies huge portions of scripture.
As Paul said in Romans 11:29, God's promises are irrevocable:
"For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance."
And Jeremiah (31:35-37) says that despite all the trials and discipline the Jewish people will endure, yet God will, in the end, fulfill His promises to Israel:
35 Thus says the Lord,
who gives the sun for light by day
and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—
the Lord of hosts is his name:
36 “If this fixed order departs
from before me, declares the Lord,
then shall the offspring of Israel cease
from being a nation before me forever.”
37 Thus says the Lord:
“If the heavens above can be measured,
and the foundations of the earth below can be explored,
then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel
for all that they have done,
declares the Lord.”
Jesus and the New Testament writers warned that in the last days there would be much deception. Consider:
What a great deception it would be for unbelievers to be persuaded that a great disappearance of followers of Christ was just desserts for people who did not "fit in" with an enlightened world!
Perhaps they were even removed by friendly "aliens," or some catastrophic event, because these Christ-followers refused to be "elevated," refused to pursue a "higher level of consciousness" (as the world sees it)?
At any rate, there would be much less soul-searching and pondering the mystery of the vast disappearance of millions and millions of people.
To those who DO believe in Jesus... the prophetic event meant to be a great comfort and a spur to tell others about their faith, becomes instead an embarrassment and "false hope." But, among many other passages, Paul encouraged us in Titus 2:13:
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ..."
And in Revelation 3:10, John writes that the Church will not go through a time of trial meant for "the world" - "those who dwell on the earth."
"...I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth."

Hi, I'm Dana! (Say that like "Anna".) I'm the owner of Music-for-Music-Teachers.com, and this site, SingTheBibleStory.com.
Like some of you, I've been playing the piano since early childhood, and have added a few other instruments along the way, plus an interest in arranging and composing music.
I also happen to love the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Christian worldview that portrays The Great War in the heavens, in which we here on earth are destined to be a part.
