This song is to help all of us Christians remember that God is not only a God of love, but of holiness.

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chaste: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock… If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.”
As a little girl, I was very familiar with a Sunday School picture that showed Jesus standing at a closed door, inclining His head, with a raised hand, ready to knock upon that closed door. This was a picture, I was told, of Jesus wanting to enter my heart. It was a picture of salvation. I needed to let Him in!
But an examination of the text reveals a different story… this is the Savior, speaking to those who are ALREADY saved, but are not walking in fellowship with Him. They are going to experience DISCIPLINE, if they don’t respond to His gentle - or loud - knocking! They are walking in sin, though they are the ones He loves… and like a true and wise father with His own children, they will receive the rod!
If we hear Him, and open that door, He will “come in” and “sup” with us - this is a picture of fellowship.

There is a school of thought in the Christian world that God never intends suffering to come our way. I don't find that in the Bible. In fact, there are plenty of passages full of God's warnings to the ones He loves, but whom He is ready to punish to try to get them back in line!
The words of Paul to Titus tell us the intent of rebuke:
"Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith." Titus 1:13
The website "GotQuestions?" has a page filled with Bible verses and Biblical examples showing the answer to "Does God punish us when we sin?" The writer's perspective is that God behaves as a loving and wise father would do, when children need discipline.

Hi, I'm Dana! (Say that like "Anna".) I'm the owner of Music-for-Music-Teachers.com, and this site, SingTheBibleStory.com.
Like some of you, I've been playing the piano since early childhood, and have added a few other instruments along the way, plus an interest in arranging and composing music.
I also happen to love the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Christian worldview that portrays The Great War in the heavens, in which we here on earth are destined to be a part.
