Church hymnal sheet music for the beautiful old song that begins, "When peace like a river attendeth my way."
That song is called "It Is Well With My Soul."
On this page find lead sheets, 4-part vocals, and piano arrangements in four keys.
I will not say that the piano arrangement is easy... it is actually rather full of clusters of right-hand chords, and left hand broken tenths.
However, when I read the 4-part harmony that is standard in most hymnals (see that arrangement below), I can see the chords, and I play it with many of the embellishments seen in the video above.
This vocal version is the same traditional arrangement that you will find in most old hymnals.
In a few of the measures, there are very fast chord changes. This is an attempt on my part to reflect what happens in the 4 part harmony arrangement.
Play through it yourself, and you may well decide that there is no need for any of those fast chord changes!
The only verses I have ever sung are verses 1, 2, 3, and 6. I know those lyrics well and treasure them.
Verses 4 and 5 are completely new to me, but I include them here, as they seem original to the hymn.
