What Wondrous Love Is This
What Wondrous Love, a choral arrangement in 4-part harmony.
This a hauntingly beautiful Shape Note version, (or what sounds like the Shape Note tradition, in any case).
An unfamiliar melody?
This is most likely not the melody that you have heard before... this melody was first heard by me in a performance by a group called "Blue Highway," and definitely has a feeling of bluegrass in their rendition.
My 4-part arrangement is a bit more stately, but still haunting.
The performance on the above video is by some of my own students, quite some years back. I apologize for the quality of the video, taken by a parent on their cell phone! - but I am glad to have it.
An easy part 2
The second voice to enter is a vocal drone - just one note, over and over again. I have found it useful in a mixed choir to have extra-easy parts for at least one of the voices. And in this piece, it is musically effective, I think.
